Title: Electronic Technician
Work Email: kd6tas@yahoo.com
Work Phone: 650-322-8656
Services:
Amp repairs, restoration, mods.
Can also handle basic repairs on
effects etc. (most any audio frequency
electronic device tube or solid-state
where service literature and parts are
available). Keep in mind that what I
charge is based on time spent and
materials used--not on a flat rate or
completed job basis. Your satisfaction
is not part of the time and materials
fee system either. That means your
understanding of what you want me to
do must be clear so that you can
communicate it to me in such a way
that I won't misunderstand it and do
something other than what you wanted
(but that you will still be required
to pay for).
Charges:
$40/hour
I don't work cheap.
Keep that in mind when considering subjective tone
mods that often require multiple sessions to complete
because of differing expections. The way tone mods
work is that I do what I think will make the desired
change based on my own sense of hearing and my
interpretation of what you tell me you want. You pay
me for my time and materials even if
what I did doesn't sound exactly the way you expected.
At that point you can have me try again,
leave it like it is, or restore it to the
way it was with the understanding that you
have to pay for restorations or further attempts.
Hours:
I work out of my house.
The best time to reach me is usually between
10 AM and 2 PM (west coast time) on weekdays.
Specialties:
Straight (no mods) repairs and
restoration (doing what is necessary
to bring an amp back to stock specs).
My philosophy is that restoration
(some call it "blueprinting") should
always come before modifications so
that sound and reliability baselines
are established. In many cases once
restoration is accomplished no tone
mods are necessary.
